Cloudy Bay

Cloudy Bay’s unerring dedication to quality and perpetual innovation over their 32-year existence has made them synonymous with pure, bracing Sauvignon Blanc and helped put New Zealand centre of the international wine stage.

A pioneer of new-age winemaking, Cloudy Bay was amongst the first wineries to be established in the vineyards of Marlborough. Back in 1985, founder David Hohnen took that pioneering spirit of the new world and dared to take a high interest bank loan to purchase several key vineyard sites in the region. His vision was to produce wines of absolute excellence and quality, starting with the impetus to source the best grapes, as the primary asset in creating a unique wine style.  Three decades later, that ethos still holds true: everything starts with selection in the vineyards.

The Marlborough region is a complex patchwork of valleys, each with its own terroir and influence on the wines. Today, Cloudy Bay’s vineyards offer a rich palette of owned lands that provides nuances of flavours. The Wairau Valley contributes fruit which makes wines with liveliness and intensity and the Southern Valley offers a balance of elegance and refinement. Together these produce the wonderfully versatile Sauvignon Blanc, which defines the punchy, juicy, fruity profile that all Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs are now measured against.
